This will be my first show. I'm super excited but super nervous. There is so much to do and I am clueless on what I'm doing. Luckily, some of my blogging buddies have given me suggestions on set up. Thanks, Shelby and Judy! I would love advice from anyone on what to do and what not to do.
Along with that, I've actually had more sales on my website and Etsy. Not huge numbers, of course, but it's something. I'm also working on a few special orders which are always loads of fun.
I've been working on several pieces recently that I hope to oxidize tomorrow and take pictures of so you girls can see. I'm still playing with ideas on how to present these during my show. I would love to see anyone's pictures of tables for shows in the past. Please just email me or leave a message here.
Ok, that's it for me. Good night girls!
Your first show!!!! Good luck, Leslie! I wish I had some wonderful advice to give, but I've only done a few myself. I'd love to get in to an art show one day....
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're getting advice though from two experienced and talented ladies - Judy and Shelby. I can't wait to hear more about the event and wish you luck getting ready.
Hi Leslie, i know what you mean. I've been working a lot, not blogging a lot. Really miss everyone! Thought I'd stop by and see you're doing a show. Be happy to help you in any way, just ask me anything that you might need help with. I've been doing shows for about eight years, mainly art fairs. You'll do great! They will love you. Take care, Riki
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you are back...I've missed you! The show looks like a nice one and I love the advertisement!
ReplyDeleteFor a Yule Fair I had small buckets that had embossed snowflakes full of white quartz(for fancy flower beds & such)w/ a branch to display wire nests & bead fairies. I have another pair of red buckets w/ hearts for a Feb. show. The buckets I found were @ Target in the dollar section.
ReplyDeleteYour first show - how exciting! Want to see what you have been creating! LOL
ReplyDeletehow cool is a valentine's day show? people will be ther to shop... you know what? i used to be terrified of shows, and now i am not... i get a little geared up with the 'will people like what i have brought' thoughts, but once you figure out a layout... you will be good! i am here if you have any questions at all... will be nice to see new things from you... and congrats on the sales!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on putting yourself out there...it takes alot of courage and faith to take the leap. You will have alot of fun...here's a must...take a small cooler with water, healthy snacks like grapes, carrots, apples slices...something you can pop into your mouth and eat quickly as there will be no time to eat. This will keep you fresh and help get you through your busy day.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear all about your huge success! xo Julie
Wow...good for you!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing shows for 3 years, which I know isn't long in comparison to others but the one piece of advice I would like to pass along is this...don't go with any expectations other than to have a great time...then what ever happens you will be thrilled!!! I learned that from my very first show...I was called at 11:00am Friday morning to be in a show the next day at 9:00am...I went with absolutely no expectations and had a wonderful time...I was hooked from then on!!!!
I hope your first show is a wonderful experience for you!!!
Cheers
A show? A show??? How exciting. I wish I had some advice...but I don't. Just have fun and let us know how it all turns out!!! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Yes, I sometimes get in a blogging funk too, but don't you worry about it. Your first show is very exciting. I do a monthly market and find that the best thing is to just relax and have fun. People care more about interacting with you than your display. Although I do think display is important. Lorelie had some lovely photos of her display back in December or November. JudyB had some of her show as well. The number one thing I have found to be helpful, no matter what way you set things up, is to leave room between items if you can. People seem to like to have an orderly and organized presentation. It's sort of like they want to be in the mall with all of the jeans on one rack and the blouses on another. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do know what you mean and I think it has something to do with the winter doldrums, yech. Congrats on having your first show! Having an eye-catching display always helps along with a big smile and hello. Also, don't forget the hand sanitizer, lots of water, and chocolate chip cookies to munch on between customers!
ReplyDeleteTry to get everything ready in advance. I have the bad habit of waiting until the last minute and am stressed beyond words. you don't need that, especially for your first show. Be ready and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSome thoughts:
ReplyDelete- bring a nice larger mirror in case someone wants to try on a piece
- you may not have a choice but your table should be bar height (could bring table leg lifters); people don't have to bend over, you are at eye level w/customers; sitting is a no-no, standing is welcoming
- as someone said earlier, layout pieces by type and have some 'free' space on your table, munchies and water
Good luck for lots of sales!
